cue teleport spell, kind of sloppy because he'd fallen asleep in the library studying something he shouldn't have been, but he lands on his feet, eyes immediately seeking out minju and then he sees what's going on. "hyung stop picking on the new girl, will ya?" sunwoo calls out to the elderly man in the painting, who cackles mischievously before slinking back into the recesses of his painting. he looks down at minju, eyebrow raised. "you good?"

the sudden appearance of sunwoo has minju stumbling backwards in shock, falling onto her backside through a few ghosts, and coming to the realisation she actually could have just walked through the 'attack'. "oof," she huffs as she tucks her legs under herself to get up, dusting off her robes. "i'm good," she looks sheepishly up at him. "i'm sorry, i was trying to show you where i was when they all came out of nowhere..."

(( sorry, i didn't mean to set up a scene on a texting meme 🤦🏻‍♀️ 100% happy to keep going if you like, or i can reset to something else for texts!

(adding a detail that they're childhood friends, maybe an older brother's friend. if that's cool? can backtrack if need be.

sunwoo scoffs lightly under his breath before holding his hand out so he can help her stand up. "you don't need to be sorry about that, short stack." he says and gives her hair a playful ruffle before leaning back to anticipate her swiping at him in retaliation. "didn't know you were that afraid of ghosts."

ps. under all this bravado, kim sunwoo is screaming bloody mary because he hates dealing with the school ghosts and shit. can hearts just explode from being scared shitless?

minju makes a face at the nickname but she takes his hand anyway, huffing a "thank you" which quickly morphs into an exasperated whine, one hand batting at his side while the other tries to push the hand in her hair away. "i was already kind of down about detention, and then i couldn't find my way back to the common room, and this painting just starts shouting and all these angry ghosts appear..." she explains woefully, counting each mishap on her fingers. "wait, weren't you the one who almost jinxed that human when you and oppa dragged me to their haunted house that halloween?"

sunwoo laughs quietly and pulls his hand back immediately, shoulders shaking while he maintains a semi-serious expression as minju recounts her day of woe. it's almost enough to make him forget that he was scared shitless a minute ago. almost. "sounds like you had a rough day," he comments, feeling a crack rising in his throat and willing it down. not today, not today, not today.

but her recalling in near perfect detail, the last time they'd seen each other, surprised him out of that. thank god. his eyes widen slightly but the corners of his lips curl up as a surprised laugh escapes him. "oh shit. no way! you remember that?" he puts a finger to his lips. "you remember then you're sworn to secrecy, too, right?"

minju misidentifies the crack in sunwoo's voice as mocking, and continues to scowl at him as she fingercombs her hair down, looking nearly as intimidating as the now-vacant painting frame. "where were you, even? apparently you have to sign off on my detention attendance slip or something..." but that can wait! minju would much rather the record of her stint in detention be lost in administrative processes.

she laughs as well, easily appeased by the memory. "how could i forget? you were so lucky you couldn't cast the spell in time..." she recounts, then fixes him with what she thinks is a sly look. it comes off more like a squinty smile. "i don't know... maybe i need to be reminded of it~"

sometimes sunwoo wonders why it is minju assumes the worst but the scowl looks kinda cute on her so he lets it slide. "you missed a hair... right here." he points out and with a finger loosens small loop of hair that escaped minju's fingers so it falls back with the rest of her hair.

(maybe he was more than a little mesmerized by it. he'd deny it, though.)

"i was in the library... doing research." he says, non suspiciously at all. sunwoo can't help but laugh inwardly at the look on her face. "so you don't remember that if you ever tell or told anyone what happened that isn't me, that you owe me a favor~"

the protest fizzles out in minju's throat as sunwoo fixes her hair. all she can do is mumble a sound of thanks as the butterflies spawn in her stomach, the way they always seem to do whenever he stops being annoying and is uncharacteristically gentle with her. once in a blue moon. she tries not to pay them any mind.

"research? what kind of research?" minju is genuinely curious, head tilting to one side as she studies his expression. "wait. no- wait... you're making it up! i told- i mean. no, i didn't..." she's never been an eloquent liar.

to sunwoo's credit? he thinks he treats her with utmost gentleness most, if not all the time. why else would have he panic teleported right to her? right to ghosts, no less... but minju doesn't know these things and sunwoo intends to keep it that way for now. "oh you know~ research about the moon and stuff..." he trails off, half wanting to keep her on the hook, the other half knowing he should shut the fuck up because he really shouldn't involve her. "how did you get detention anyways?" he asks, changing the subject and laughs at her attempt to lie. "you told...?" with a mischievous grin on his lips, he backs away and nods his head.

"c'mon. i'll walk you back to your common room."

"the moon?" minju repeats thoughtfully, easily distracted, resting her chin on her fist. "is there something happening with the moon? other than that super giant red moon next month that everyone seems to be talking about..." minju has never seen one before; she knows it isn't a shooting star, but somehow she feels like she should wish on it.

"ah..." her dreamy expression fades as she ponders how much to tell him, brows knitting together. "this guy's been bothering me in potions, and... some stuff happened, so i put a toad in his warming brew when he wasn't looking, and it exploded." minju presses her lips together so she won't laugh.

"i didn't tell! don't... you'll make me do something bad..." she falls into step next to him, sighing softly as they head off. "i promise i'll remember the way soon and you'll stop having to come and rescue me."

sunwoo scoffs softly at the way minju's entire being seems to melt to the idea of the moon, as if he too didn't admire the moon the same exact way. he should make a wish on the super giant red moon next month. he could use good juju. "just related to some runes stuff i'm working on for school," he tosses back vaguely because like.... 75% true. good enough to be the truth. "which guy?" sunwoo asks, eyebrow raised now as he listens. "what did he do?" he can't help but let out a laugh at her retaliation of sorts. "i guess that's one way to scare him off..."

"you didn't? you sure about that?" he asks and pauses at her words, turns so that he's walking backward and facing her. "something bad, huh? what's bad to you exactly?"

minju doesn't notice the scoff, and even if she had, it wouldn't have fazed her. she was excited to just see the moon; even the name of the phenomenon was exciting. "runes... in your handwriting?" she teases, bumping a shoulder against sunwoo's as they walk. she stops messing around when he probes a little further, face clouding over for a moment as she quickly replies, "you don't know him. i thought we were- well- i don't know. he was nice to me at first, then... not so nice." it's purposely vague.

"i'm... sure... i only told eunbi unnie!" minju confesses, unable to help herself. "you'll make me like, i don't know, get you coffee or... carry your stuff or... buy your meals..."

sunwoo rolls his eyes at her. "my handwriting's gotten me far enough~ it helped me tutor you last term, didn't it?" he quips before his eyes narrow at the way she closes up about this guy. he makes a mental note. "there's someone i don't know? nu-uh. give me a name." she can be as vague as she wants, because he's not moving on from this. thoughts of teasing her leaving in lieu of thinking about all the ways he could mess with this guy who messed with minju. "those don't sound bad. i was going to ask for a kiss." never mind, he can't help himself.

"i don't know if it helped so much as, i did okay despite your handwriting... i had to ask oppa to decipher your notes," minju fakes a big sigh, but it doesn't take long for her to break and laugh at him. "you won't know him because he's in my year," she starts, but one glance at sunwoo's expression tells her he'll just keep asking, and she just wants to put it all behind her. "lucas. he made a bet with his friends on how fast he could 'get' me, or something." minju explains quickly, ears red as the embarrassment rises in her chest again. "it wasn't anything dangerous, so. it's fine."

she clears her throat only to choke again as he continues. "what? with me?" varying emotions dance across her face: shock, doubt, maybe a flash of hope if he looks intently enough. minju sputters out a small, shaky laugh as she tries to joke, "that doesn't sound bad either."
